Body Worn Cameras

After several months of public input, testing, and policy development, the Blaine Police Department began using Body Worn Cameras in September 2017. As expected, the cameras have proven to be useful not only in criminal investigations but also in improving transparency and public trust.

The department currently uses camera products manufactured by Axon. They have been reliable and easy to use for officers as well as for evidence and records personnel who handle the digital evidence they create.

In order to comply with statutes related to body worn camera systems, the department publishes its relevant policy on this page. Additionally, biennial audits conducted by a neutral auditor ensure compliance with statute and policy. The results of those audits are presented to the city council for review and to address any discrepancies the audit may find.
